Started thinking about reducing my weight!

Filed under: General — Praveen Kumar @ 2:11 pm

From yesterday, I seriously started thinking about reducing my weight (95 kgs @ 178 cm ; BMI=29.98). I am about to enter into the Obesity category from my overweight category by a BMI margin of 0.02. I was 74 kgs before 2 years. I am not sure how much weight I can drop off. But as experts say, I am planning to lose 10% of my weight in the next six months.

First two steps in dropping off my weight are to make my diet proper and involve in physical activity. From today, I started jogging. I jogged for 3.2 kms today. I am planning to increase it slowly and touch 6 km run. To achieve this, I think that I have to quit smoking. Initially, I thought of reducing it to one per day and later on I have to completely stop smoking. Lots of change in my life style. I planned to get up by 5:30 am and go to bed by 11:00 pm. Let me see how much I can follow it ;-)

  1. Awesome! Jogging is fun. However I'm currently facing the following obstacles:

When there is rain I cannot run. and this damn bangalore is wet all the time.
When I come in late the previous day (which i do almost everyday) I have difficulty getting up early. and once it is too late, its difficult to run amidst the pollution and traffic.
Smoking (tobacco?) does not increase your BP by a huge amount but it certainly increases BP to an extent. So you have to be _very_ careful about jogging. Because running/jogging also increases the BP. *VERY* bad for your heart. So some stretching exercises have to be done first before you start jogging. Stretching exercises reduces BP and prepares your body for run.

Any form of smoke is bad (apart from the nicotine addiction). So try quitting… (I sound like a hypocrite, i know. but I'm _also_ trying to quit… :) ).

For points #1 and #2, a tread mill is the best solution, i think.

  2. Right now I am jogging in the tread mill ;-)
Regarding Smoking, I think I almost quit it. Now I take 1 per two or three days which is a rapid change from a packet a day.
